Pray and Obey

For me the christian life can be summed up in two words, prayer and obedience.  At least in the practical day to day living as a disciple, learner and follower of Jesus Christ.  To quote Pastor Cho "I pray and I obey."

Jesus said "without Me you can do nothing."

Is it really more human effort that makes the difference.  Or prayer and simple trust in the Lord.  Is it our work or His work.  Is it our effort or His grace at work within us.  Is it something that comes from mere human effort, or is it the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Grace working within us His good pleasure.  "He doeth the work"

So is it really push harder, do better, work harder, do more?  Or is it His grace, His power working in us that brings the exceeding abundantly above all we could ever ask or think?

The bible says that we do not even know how to pray properly according to the will of God in our human effort or ability and we need the help of the Holy Spirit in order to pray effectively.  The life of the christian is a life of total dependence upon the Lord and the role of our human effort is more along the lines of remaining yielded and obedient to the Holy Spirit.

This is the dispensation of Grace and the hour of the Holy Spirit.  We may find grace to help and depend on the Spirit of God in this hour to do exceedingly abundantly and beyond all that we could ever ask or think.

Romans 8:26  Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities, for we know not what we should pray for as we ought:  but the Spirit Himself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.  And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because He maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.  And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.
